Team News: Makos Motorsports -- Florida Winter Tour
January 12, 2007
Heading South to Homestead-Miami Speedway and the Florida Winter
Tour, Makos Motorsports will lead off its 2007 schedule this weekend
as both 10-year-old Julius and 7-year-old Matteus Makos take to the
grid in Shockwave Karting Cadet and Group B. It will be the first
international racing experience for each, in a season that will
bring tastes of more and much more racing as members of Cameron
Motorsports/CRG National Team.
After completing the full Formula Kart
Productions TonyKart Florida Winter Tour, both boys will contest two
Eastern rounds of the Snap-On Stars of Karting Championship later
this summer, first in New Castle, Indiana, May 18-20; then in
Shawano, Wisconsin, August 3-5. Closer to their home in Richmond
Hill, Ontario, the boys will race a full schedule in both the Sunoco
Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels,
and in the Toronto Kart Club. The Canadian National Championship
will also be a highlight on the docket, and an assortment of other
club and regional action will complete the season.
Julius Makos is a past TKC Club Champion and is
entering his fourth year of karting after racing around the province
of Ontario last summer. He raced full schedules in both the SRFKC
and at TKC - and did so in two classes: Junior Light and F1-K Cadet.
He also raced assorted events at other Ontario Clubs, scoring top
fives and podiums at an array of events.
Seven-year-old Matteus is beginning just his
third year of karting and has already gained some unique
achievements. He was the 2006 Canadian Rookie Karting Championship
overall points champion, despite his young age, and in TKC
competition he won the inaugural Hershey Centre Grand Prix with the
club. He also took karting to the mainstream media as a CITY-TV
Athlete of the Week, and finished second in the TKC Cadet
Championship, all as a seven-year-old!
Both Julius and Matteus are very much looking
forward to racing in the Comer class in Florida and are excited to
be National Team members with Cameron Motorsports and CRG. They are
eager to begin, and are sure racing internationally will further
develop their championship skills.
