National Team: Florida Winter Tour --
Round #1
January 17, 2007
Hot off a successful Group A weekend at the Florida Winter Tour,
Cameron Motorsports returned with equally rewarding Group B results.
In the headline Pro shifter class Cameron Motorsports CRG Factory
driver Michael Vincec started the 2007 season as he ended 2006, on
the top step of the podium. Along with his two wins, Michael chalked
up the fastest lap in both races as well as a pole position. His CMI/CRG/Swedetech
powered machine was dialed in throughout the weekend thanks to the
work of tuner Brian Bettencourt. Brian has returned for another year
with Michael after his championship rookie season in the headline
class. Joining Michael in Pro Shifter were teammates Gianmarco
Raimondo who drove to a top ten finish on Sunday while Michael Di
Meo placed fifteenth on his rookie debut in the high profile class.
In other weekend action the talented lead
junior driver for Cameron Motorsports, David Ostella was back after
a successful Rotax Max weekend in group A. This time behind the
wheel of the CMI/CRG/Hi-Rev Parilla kart, David qualified second in
JICA on Saturday just five one hundredths off pole, some bad fortune
in the final saw him finishing sixth. Newcomer to Cameron
Motorsports, Connor Carrothers, hit the asphalt for the first time
in JICA. In a class topping 32 drivers, the rookie made strides all
weekend long improving each session. He ran in 12th at one point
before a racing incident set him back. “Connor is a great kid and
is consciously developing his driving skills. I know we are going to
see a lot from him, he has the stuff,” observed Cameron
Motorsports National Team Manager Mike Roth.
Cameron Motorsports American drivers left a
strong impression in ICA action. Cody Jolly and Garrett Napier
qualified respectively fifth and tenth on Saturday, both encountered
trouble in the prefinal pushing them to the back. Napier recovered
moving forward nine positions to finish 11th in the final.
Sunday’s race had Jolly finishing with an impressive top ten from
his back of the pack start in last position.
In
his rookie year, Cameron Motorsports' youngest driver, seven year old
Matteus Makos, debuted in the cadet class alongside older brother
Julius. Both karters had an impressive intro to the tour finishing
each time and completing all laps with weekend highs – Julius had
an 11th place finish and Matteus a 15th place. Both youngsters will
be back to the Tour next month with wrench Mark Kitchen at their
side.
