Race Report: Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship
  Round #3

July 16, 2007

Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Series racers hit the Kawartha Downs and Speedway jackpot July 7th and 8th as they were treated to a great weekend of racing just outside Peterborough, Ontario. The facility provided everything needed for a great event: a fast, challenging racetrack, lots of paddock space, on-site camping and many great places to watch the racing. The Speedway and its employees were excellent hosts as they worked tirelessly to make sure the event was a success.

Not only was the Speedway host to the BSRKC, it was also Sponsor for Round #3 and awarded race winner hats, trophies, t-shirts and tickets for the upcoming NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES 250 race on September 23. On Friday night during their race program they had a Demonstration Race for both the Junior and Senior Honda racers as all participants enjoyed the chance to race on the full oval. Jamie Riberdy and Corey Jones took home top honours. Track Manager Derek Lynch had the following to say about the event, “Going in we were green and didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be absolutely fabulous, the turn out was great, and in every way it was better than we ever expected.”

Of course, not only did everyone have a great time, but there was also great racing taking place on the track. For the first time two 4 cycle races, Junior Medium and Senior Medium, were added to the Saturday lineup. In Junior Medium it was Jamie Riberdy first to the checkered flag with Julius Makos and Adam Racine not far behind in second and third respectively. In the Senior Medium Class it was Tyler Hendricks finishing first ahead of Jacob Ford in second and Wesley Schindel in third.

In the 2 cycle races held on Saturday, Juliana Chiovitti was the winner after Ryan Horses failed to clear tech, with Josh Adams taking second and Kenny Reidmann finishing third in the ICC Class. In Junior Rotax Jesse Ward posted his first race win of the year with a last lap pass followed by Zac Mahoney and Jonathon Treadwell. The largest field of the day was Senior Rotax with Michael Mora the winner, Kurtis St. Clair second and James Larmour third.

Sunday featured a full slate of exciting 4 cycle racing. In Cadet Devlin De Francesco got by the Pole Winner Matteus Makos on lap 1 to make it 2 wins in a row for Devlin. Second place went to Madysen Wright who was joined on the podium by third place finisher Austin Bisschop. The Junior Lite competitors staged a great race that featured lots of passing throughout the field. Max Preston was the Fastest Qualifier, Adam Racine made up the most spots in finishing third, but Nico Fattore wasted no time getting to the front when he claimed to the lead on lap 2 and held on for the win with Julius Makos the second place finisher never far behind.

In the Masters Class it was Jake Collison who led from start to finish, with Fred Jordan finishing second. Scott Brooks was the third place finisher. In the Novice Class the race order never changed in the first three positions as Scott Nagel led the field to the green flag and was the first kart to take the checkered flag. Grant Quinlan finished second and it was Trevor Rancier who finished third.

The Senior Lite Class put on a great show. A first lap shunt saw Kelly Wood drop from her fourth-place starting position to 13th. Lap by lap she made her way up through the field to finish fourth. Pearce Herder was the race winner, Darryl Timmers was second and Steve Lyons finished in third. In Senior Heavy, first place finisher Corey Jones and second place finisher Bryan Sudsbury had exactly the same fastest lap time of 43.185 seconds as they utilized the draft to get away from Jake Collison in third. Junior Heavy had four lead changes over the 15 lap final before Reid Arnold took the win on the last lap followed by Jonathon and Justine Treadwell.

The whole weekend is summed up best with the following quote from Mr. Lynch: “It was a great event and we look forward to doing it again next year and to making this race a permanent special event in the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Series for many years to come.”
