In the last round of the
Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Julius Makos ended a drought
when he climbed the steps of the podium, and last weekend he
officially put himself back on track when he topped the blocks at
event two of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship.
Off pole coming from quickpics.com Junior Light
pole qualifying, Makos was pushed back to fifth at the start of the
prefinal when he wrestled with the marbles outside of turn one.
Quickly working his way back to third in the field of twelve, he
then showed his experience as he worked with the second-place kart
to run down the leader. Once creating a pack of three, Makos took
second in the closing laps and set the fastest lap of the Heat race
in the process.
Starting from off-pole in the main event, Makos
once again tiptoed through the marbles outside turn one and fell to
fifth once again. This time charging forward, the young karter from
Richmond Hill took fourth back almost immediately, and reached third
almost as quickly. Makos then moved to second and spent the middle
stages closing the gap to the race leader. He caught him working lap
seventeen, and one lap later took a lead he held to the checker in
the 20-lap final. Adding the points to a fifth at race one, Makos is
now second in the Championship, just three points from the lead.
Now fully recovered from a broken arm, younger
brother Matteus Makos was also in action at the BSRKC where he
qualified second in a Novice field of thirteen. Losing ground on the
outside line at the start of the prefinal, Matteus took two spots
back over the opening lap and took another later on to finish
seventh. On track for the main event the start went wrong once
again, and Makos fell to eleventh. He got back to ninth in the
opening stages, and after passing a pair working lap seven he
recovered sixth heading into the closing stages. With three to go he
moved into the top five, and held the spot to the checkered flag.
Makos Motorsports is back in action beginning
today with the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by
Toronto Star Wheels. Event three on the schedule is the famed
Cameron Motorsports Barrie Grand Prix, where Julius will be racing
both Junior Light and F1-K Junior.
