Driver News: Julius Makos, SRFKC

Julius Makos kicked off his Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship season with
a pair of top tens over the weekend at Goodwood Kartways. The first came
Saturday in F1-K 60cc where he was fifth, and the second followed Sunday in
Canada Junior Light where he was seventh.
After a full day of practice Friday, race action
began Saturday where Julius was seventh in Pfaff Pole qualifying for F1-K 60cc -
but just 0.14 seconds from third on the grid! He then lowered his quick time in
the prefinal, upping his position to fifth, before improving further in a 25-lap
main event. Capitalizing on a great opening lap, Julius was third after the
first flyer and began a race long battle that at times stretched from second to
sixth. In the end, the Cameron/CRG cadet slotted fifth of fifteen, setting his
best time on lap 19 of 25.
Back in action Sunday, his Makos Motorsports team
was chasing problems from morning practice onward and things only got worse in
qualifying. Taking to the track, carburetion problems prevented the youngster
from completing a timed lap and the team then went to work rebuilding the
carburetor and replacing the fuel pump, lines, and gaskets prior to the prefinal.
Starting from the back, Makos advanced to eighth but the kart was still very
much off. Still chasing problems into the main event, the team found nearly
three-tenths and picked up one more spot for seventh in the final tally.
Makos Motorsports will be back in club action
this coming weekend at Toronto Kart Club before heading to Hamilton and the home
base of Cameron/CRG for the second round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
Championship May 25th.
