Team News:  Simcoe Kart Club -- Race #5, June 8, 2008

Matteus Makos Sutton, Ontario’s 3 S Go Karts was host of Simcoe Kart Club (SKC) race #5 on Sunday, on an extremely hot and humid weekend where the team made the decision late in the week to by-pass the TKC race on Saturday to get some much needed practice for the SKC race on Sunday. Sr pilot Julius Makos was making his fifth appearance in junior heavy since moving up from junior lite class the end of May as well the team's youngest pilot Matteus was looking for another strong run in the novice class looking to continue his winning ways.

Matteus who was up on the grid first and after a 6 lap qualify session, Matteus put his Karts and Parts Gold kart on pole by over 3 tenths, the inside row was the place to be as SKC was running the track configuration clockwise which made corner one a tight fit if you where to be on the outside row. The 10 lap pre-final was cut short to 6 laps due to a red flag incident but it would leave Matteus on pole once again for the Final. The start of the final did not go exactly as planned as Matteus lost his position to P2 and the game of cat and mouse began, not for lack of effort Matteus was riding the leaders bumper the first half of the race until making a pass at end of the straight into corner one to take the lead for the first time, he relinquished the lead the following lap in the same spot he had made the pass. Not to make the same mistake twice Matteus was waiting for the last lap white flag to make a final attempt to pass for the win, but as the starter made an error in laps the white flag was never waved and they went straight to checkered, a solid second was the result for his efforts.

Julius Makos Senior driver Julius Makos competing in the junior heavy class put in valuable practice time on Saturday along with his two practice sessions Sunday. Julius put his Karts and Parts Gold kart in P7 for the pre-final but a disqualification for fuel would have him start from the back of the field. Starting from the rear and having a plan in place along with a few minor adjustments to his kart, Julius moved up 6 positions to finish the pre final in P7 which would put him on the inside row for the final. The much anticipated final went off better then expected and after the first three corners Julius had made his way to P3 and the race was on. The following few laps Julius made his move up to P2, working together with P3 they began to make there chase towards the leader who at the time had a 8 kart length lead, by lap 10 of 15 the top three where bumper to bumper. Julius made a fantastic inside move heading into corner eight and had taken the lead for the first time but it was short lived as by the end of the straight he moved back to P2, a driver error into corner 3 pushed him back one more position to P3, exactly where he finished the race. There will be some growing pains racing against more experienced and older drivers but valuable lessons and experience along with a top 3 finish is what he will take away with him today.

Looking ahead, Makos Motorsports will be back on track June 14 with the Toronto Kart Club Race #5 at Goodwood Kartways for the “Dennis Morgan Memorial Race” followed by a return date to Sutton, Ontario the following day for SKC race #6.
